Attorney Kortney Daly has 5 Tips if you Get Pulled Over by Police
- Pull over as soon as possible in a well lit area, select a space that is safe for you and the officer
- When officer asks you: Do you know why I pulled you over? Always say NO, because any admission as to what you think he may have called you over for, may be used against you in a criminal case or traffic ticket hearing
- Be respectful and polite, this will help move the process along quicker and you will be less likely to have a problem escalate with the police
- Answer the officer’s questions only in relation to the traffic stop, but DO NOT offer any additional information
- Never consent to a search or allow an officer to “look around” in your car. Anything they find could be used against you, and a motion to suppress will more than likely be denied if you consented to the search
