Ty Cooper

Background

Ty Cooper grew up in Montgomery and attended High School at Brewbaker Technology Magnet High School, where he excelled in a technology-oriented curriculum, as well as competing on both the basketball and tennis teams.

In 2011 he completed a Bachelor’s Degree from Auburn University, majoring in English Literature with supporting coursework in Spanish. This Spanish education has assisted him in engaging with the Spanish speaking population across multiple different professions and industries. After college, he began a career in finance where he was promoted to regional manager for a national consumer lending corporation within three years. He then spent four years in San Diego, California, managing a marketing and promotional firm that partnered with Fortune 500 telecommunications companies such as AT&T and Sprint. While in San Diego, he performed community outreach by connecting low-income individuals and families with the Lifeline program, which provides free cell phones and service to those in need.

Ty Cooper - Criminal Defense Attorney - Fort Myers, FLAfter San Diego, Ty returned to Alabama and attended Thomas Goode Jones School of Law, where he was awarded an academic scholarship for his performance on the LSAT. In law school, he developed an interest in criminal law, performing highly in criminal procedure, criminal law, advanced criminal Law, and federal crimes. As a Dean Fellow, he assisted and tutored first year law students not only in academics, but also in navigating the difficulty of 1L year. In his 3L year, he interned with the Federal Defenders of the Middle District of Alabama. During this time, he worked on high level federal cases such as Hobbs Act Robbery and Drug Trafficking; he also drafted motions to suppress and sentencing memorandums that were critical to the representation of federal defendants.

After passing the bar, he practiced civil litigation, handling real estate, contract, and probate disputes, as well as participating in guardianship cases. In December of 2022, he joined the Office of the Public Defender of the 20th Judicial Circuit in Fort Myers, where he thoroughly enjoyed handling every aspect of criminal cases. In his time with the Public Defender, he represented a wide variety of cases, ranging from misdemeanors such as DUI and Battery, to felonies, including Obstruction of Justice, Sale and Delivery of Narcotics, Domestic Violence by Strangulation, and much more. He also has extensive experience in Violations of Probation, Domestic Relations issues, pretrial motion practice, and criminal jury trials, where he prides himself on his zealous representation and exploring every opportunity to achieve the most favorable resolution for his clients facing the criminal justice system.
