Carlye Owens
Background
Carlye Owens is a Tampa native who has spent her career serving the Bay Area community. Carlye obtained a Bachelors Degree from the University of Florida and then continued her education at The University of Florida Levin College of Law in Gainesville (Go Gators!). During her time in law school, Carlye was a member of the Moot Court Team and was voted Best Overall and Best Oralist by Florida Supreme Court judges in the school’s intramural Final Four competition. She interned at ArchCity Defenders in St Louis, Missouri, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in Tampa, and the Appellate Division of the Georgia Public Defender Council. While living in Gainesville, Carlye also spent time tutoring at-risk children, helped to establish a mentorship program at a Title I school, and volunteered with restoration of voting rights clinics for convicted felons.
Following her graduation from law school, Carlye accepted a position as an Assistant Public Defender in Hillsborough County. During her time at the Public Defender’s Office, Carlye represented hundreds of people facing both misdemeanor and felony charges including DUI, Battery, Aggravated Assault, Battery on Law Enforcement Officer, Grand Theft, Traveling to Meet a Minor, Drug Trafficking, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Driving without a License Causing Death, and more. During her time as a public defender, Carlye litigated over a dozen jury trials.
Carlye is committed to providing both competent and compassionate legal services, focusing on both litigation and mitigation to achieve positive results. She recognizes the impact a criminal charge can have on a person and their family, and prides herself in fighting zealously on behalf of her clients.
